What is Residency by Investment?
Residency by Investment (RBI)—often called a “Golden Visa”—allows you to obtain a legal residence permit in a host country in exchange for an investment, such as real estate, government bonds, or capital transfer.
Unlike Citizenship by Investment, RBI grants residency first. It allows you to live in the host country and travel freely within that region (e.g., Schengen Area). Citizenship may be possible later, but usually requires you to learn the language and live there for several years.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does RBI lead to citizenship?
It creates a pathway, but it is not automatic. In most EU countries (like Greece, Portugal, Spain), you must reside physically for 5–10 years and pass language exams to naturalize as a citizen.
Can I work on an RBI visa?
It depends on the country. Some Golden Visas (like Portugal) allow employment. Others (like Greece) allow you to be a shareholder/director of a company but technically restrict standard employment.
Can I include parents or older children?
Yes. Most Golden Visa programs allow for “Family Reunification,” covering spouses, children (usually up to 21 or 24 if students), and dependent parents.
Can I use crypto proceeds?
You cannot buy real estate directly with Crypto in most RBI jurisdictions. You must cash out to fiat and provide a clear audit trail showing how the crypto was accumulated (mining, trading, staking).
What if I’m refused?
Refusals usually happen due to a criminal record or inability to prove the source of funds. If the real estate deal fails, the residency application stops, but your capital is usually protected via escrow arrangements.
